Celebrating Joy Ericson and her love of flowers
The Beginning
In 1967, Joy was invited to join the Garden Gate Garden Club (GGGC) by a fellow mom on her street. Her first flower show competition was a team effort with that same friend. Their floral arrangement, inspired by Andrew Wyeth, earned second place and sparked Joy’s competitive nature and passion for flower shows.
Becoming a Judge
In the early 1980s, the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs offered classes in Flower Show Judging. Joy enrolled and became a certified flower show judge, a role she has held for more than 40 years!
On the World Stage
Today, Joy is a highly respected international judge, having judged flower shows throughout the United States and at international events as far south as Peru. Earlier this year, she judged her 40th Philadelphia Flower Show, the oldest and largest flower show in the United States.
Giving Back
Joy has also served as President of the GGGC and continues to be a valued mentor to fellow members, sharing her expertise in the art of floral arrangement and presentation.
